The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report on a train collision in northwest Arkansas that left dozens of people with minor injuries.
The collision happened Oct. 16 when an Arkansas & Missouri Railroad locomotive struck a passenger excursion train that had stalled on tracks near Brentwood. The locomotive had been dispatched to offer assistance to the stalled train.
According to the NTSB report, the locomotive was traveling about 25 mph when it struck the passenger train. The report says the conductor of the locomotive jumped from the train and suffered back and ankle injuries, while the engineer remained in the locomotive and suffered minor injuries.
The report says the collision caused $178,500 in damage to the trains and railroad track.
