The Oklahoma Department of Transportation has told Pittsburg County officials to enforce the 5-ton weight limit on a bridge that cross Bull Creek.
County Commissioner Trent Myers told the McAlester News-Capital that a bridge inspector labeled the bridge as fracture critical – meaning that if a bridge support should fail the bridge would be in danger of collapsing.
ODOT Bridge inspector Wes Kellog said the label does not mean the bridge is unsafe to the public.
Myers said gas and oil tanker trucks that weigh more than the 5-ton limit are often seen on the bridge and that a detour sign has been installed to direct those drivers to an alternate route.
