Kentucky State Fire Marshal William Swope is urging volunteer fire departments across the state to apply for grants available through the Volunteer Fire Assistance program.
The initiative is intended to improve the capability and effectiveness of the state’s rural fire departments.
Swope said grants of $1,000 to $5,000 are available to help pay for equipment and firefighter training. They are matching grants, meaning volunteer departments have to put up equal amounts of money or services.
Grant applications are available from the Kentucky Division of Forestry. The deadline is June 17.
