Emergency management officials from across Florida are in Fort Lauderdale this week to prepare for the upcoming Atlantic hurricane season.
Training workshops at the annual Governor’s Hurricane Conference began Sunday and continue through Friday.
The newly named interim director of Florida’s Division of Emergency Management, Ruben Almaguer, was schedueld to address the conference. He will be joined by the director of the National Hurricane Center, Bill Read.
Almaguer’s predecessor, Craig Fugate, has been confirmed as the new head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
The six-month hurricane season starts June 1.
