State regulators say there were 34 accidental workplace deaths in North Carolina last year.
The numbers released by the North Carolina Department of Labor show that accidental workplace fatalities dropped from 57 in 2008. Construction fatalities remained the highest, with 14 in 2008. There were eight manufacturing deaths.
Wake County had the most fatalities with six, followed by Hyde County with four. Mecklenburg, Robeson and Rockingham counties each had two fatalities.
Falls were responsible for nine deaths. Explosions caused eight fatailities.
