A central Kentucky city has settled a lawsuit with its former chief financial officer who claimed he was unfairly demoted.
The Danville City Commission agreed to pay Spencer Rodgers $125,000 and allow him to stay in the position of IT technician for six weeks and provide him with letters of reference.
The Danville Advocate-Messenger reported that the settlement will be paid in two lump sums — $75,000 from the city and $50,000 from the city’s insurer, the Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Services Inc.
Rodgers sued the city in October 2008 in Boyle Circuit Court, alleging that city officials demoted him because of an investigation of financial irregularities and mishandling of city finances noted in a 2007 audit. The city denied the charges.
