Authorities say the employee at Adventure Island in Tampa, Florida who was struck by lightning has died.
The man was identified late Saturday as 21-year-old Justin Inversso.
Authorities say the lifeguard supervisor was standing in a few feet of water Saturday at the Key West Rapids ride when lightning struck. Park employees performed CPR on him until Tampa Fire Rescue workers arrived. Inversso was taken to University Community Hospital, where he died.
It’s not immediately clear if the water slide was closing at the time due to a storm moving through the area. The ride was closed after Inversso was taken to the hospital, but the park remained open.
Park President Jim Dean told the St. Petersburg Times this was “the first incident of its kind at the park.”
