Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says the city is taking proactive measures to prepare for this season’s inclement weather.
On Monday, Reed will display some of the new snow and ice equipment the city has bought to deal with winter storms, including more than 40 snow plows and more than 30 sand spreaders.
In January, frustrated drivers and stranded travelers complained that Atlanta and Georgia were caught unawares when a storm dumped several inches of snow across the state and caused more than 1,700 accidents, bringing life to a halt as workers tried to clear roads. The city initially had only 10 pieces of equipment to deal with the weather crisis, but later had 58.
