Kentucky State Police has launched its summer safe driving campaign, called Operation B.L.U.E. Lights.
The acronym “B.L.U.E.” stands for basic traveling safety and vehicle maintenance; lower speed in work zone areas; undivided attention on the road and attention to motorcycles; and enforcement of speed, DUI and occupant protection.
State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer says the approach is in response to the increasing number of fatalities on Kentucky roads.
The agency has a checklist to be given out to drivers at safety checkpoints with information about getting vehicles road-ready. The agency has also designed a “safe driving pledge” form that troopers will distribute at festivals, fairs and community forums.
