The state Insurance and Fire Safety Commissioner is recommending Georgians use a new smartphone application to simplify information sharing after a car accident.
Commissioner Ralph Hudgens says Wreckcheck, developed by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, helps users understand what information to give to other drivers after car accidents.
A survey by the NAIC showed many consumers are unsure of what type of information they should exchange after accidents. Hudgens says names and insurance information is generally acceptable. However, the survey showed consumers have sometimes shared their home addresses with other drivers, allowed other drivers to take photographs of their licenses and are unaware that filing a police report for even minor accidents can help the insurance claim process.
The free application is available for iPhone and Android users.
