Officials say two people have been injured by a bull at a central Florida rodeo.
Volusia County Fire Rescue officials say a man and a woman were injured in a “Grab the Tag” event during Saturday’s annual Cracker Day festivities at the county fairgrounds in DeLand. Participants in the contest try to retrieve a tag from a bull’s ear to win money.
Officials say the bull turned on Desiree Cicero, ran after her and struck her in the arm. According to fire rescue officials, a 19-year-old male spectator rushing to the woman’s aid was kicked by the same bull. Nearly three dozen people participated in the contest.
Both the man and Cicero were taken to a hospital.
Cicero tells WESH-TV in Orlando that she suffered a broken rib and was gored in her right arm when the bull trampled her.
Cicero said she is expected to make a full recovery. The man who tried to help her also is expected to be OK.
“I couldn’t believe it. If he wasn’t there, that bull could have just smashed my face in,” Cicero said as she was leaving the hospital.
