A South Carolina boating company owner has been charged with providing improper equipment to a Clemson University student who drowned at Lake Jocassee earlier this year.
The Natural Resources Department has ticketed Charlie Michael, owner of Jocassee Outdoor Center in Salem.
Michael is accused of giving an improperly fitting life jacket to 25-year-old Anlin Wang of Central, who drowned in Lake Jocassee in March.
The maximum penalty for the ticket is a fine of $475.
Wang and his wife rented a kayak from Michael’s company. Both were wearing life jackets when the kayak capsized. Wang was unable to swim.
Wang’s wife swam to shore. His body was found March 17.
