Tennessee Highway Patrol Reports Success During No Fatalities Challenge

The Tennessee Highway Patrol and state Department of Safety and Homeland Security say a goal to have zero fatalities on Interstate 40 over the Thanksgiving holiday appears to have been met.

Seven other states participated in the challenge that involved state police and highway patrol agencies stepping up patrols along the I-40 corridor last Wednesday and Sunday, the busiest travel days of the period.

Each agency was asked to assign a trooper every 20 miles along I-40.

Law enforcement officials from the California Highway Patrol, Arizona Department of Public Safety, New Mexico State Police, Texas Department of Public Safety, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Arkansas State Police and North Carolina Highway Patrol also accepted the challenge.

Officials said in a release this week that California’s numbers weren’t available, but that the other participants reported zero fatalities.
