Officials say marine patrol officers arrested eight people over the holiday weekend on a charge of boating under the influence,
Keith Davis, chief of marine patrol for the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, tells The Sun Herald over the Fourth of July weekend, they checked 352 boats and 1,486 people, issued 28 boat and water citations and responded to a minor accident involving two personal water crafts.
Davis says DMR had beefed up patrols the previous weekend to remind boaters of safety issues and to warn about the dangers of combining alcohol with boating. One person was arrested that weekend on a BUI charge.
