Authorities say winds of up to 80 mph destroyed six small airplanes and damaged 15 others at an airport south of Atlanta.
The National Weather Service sent a team of staffers to investigate damage at the Henry County Airport in Hampton after Sunday night storms struck the area.
In a report on the damage, the weather service said “downburst winds” estimated at 70 to 80 mph destroyed the six planes when they were ripped from their tie-downs and flipped over. The other 15 planes sustained minor damage.
There were no reports of any injuries.
The airport, also known as Atlanta South Regional Airport, is about 25 miles south of downtown Atlanta.
