The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado hit Valdosta and led to a building collapse and additional damage in the south Georgia city.
Meteorologists in Tallahassee said in a report that an EF2 tornado touched down in south Valdosta Monday and caused damage to several buildings in the area. Forecasters say the twister led to the collapse of a building at Langdale Forest Products, a lumber processing facility.
Officials say the storm also tossed several cars and overturned two rail cars.
Forecasters say the twister was on the ground for .8 miles and was 180 yards wide.
Police and fire officials have told the Valdosta Daily Times that four people were taken to the South Georgia Medical Center after the storm hit the area.
