Florida Gov. Rick Scott is denying allegations that his administration banned use of the terms “climate change” and “global warming” in officials reports and speeches.
The governor made the denials in response to a report by the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting that quoted former employees and contractors who said they were told not to use the terms.
Scott is openly skeptical of climate change. He famously said he was “not a scientist” when asked about climate change in the past.
Former Florida Department of Environmental Protection attorney Chris Byrd says he was told by his superiors at a staff meeting not to use those terms.
Byrd says there was no written policy banning the terms but that supervisors made it clear verbally.
