The Montana Department of Labor says that 45 people were killed in the workplace last year.
The agency says that number is down a bit from the previous year.
The natural resource and mining industry was the most deadly, accounting for 14 of the 45 deaths. It was followed by the transportation and warehousing sector and then construction.
Transportation deaths topped the list as the most frequent type of fatality.
The Department of Labor says that fatality statistics are used as a tool to help increase workplace safety.
Montana had 39 workplace fatalities in both 2003 and 2004, and 50 fatalities in 2005.
