California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced that he will deploy Department of Insurance consumer information experts to the Imperial County, Calif., Local Assistance Center to help Baja Earthquake survivors with recovery efforts.
“The last thing earthquake survivors should have to worry about is undertaking the daunting insurance claims process,” said Commissioner Poizner. “I am dispatching Department of Insurance consumer information experts to the Imperial County Local Assistance Center to help any impacted residents with recovery efforts.”
The County of will be establishing a Local Assistance Center (LAC) beginning 10 a.m., Thursday, April 22, 2010. The LAC is being established by the County of Imperial to provide assistance and recovery services for residents who have lost homes or otherwise impacted by the April 4 earthquake.
Commissioner Poizner is sending CDI staff to the LAC to respond to any insurance-related questions and concerns survivors may have as they work to rebuild their lives in the wake of the destructive earthquake that impacted many Imperial County residents. Consumer information experts will assist survivors that have earthquake insurance with obtaining additional living expense payments, answering insurance questions, helping survivors understand their coverage, providing advice for filing a claim and assisting with filing a complaint if necessary.
