A former San Francisco, Calif., city employee is facing charges after officials say she approved a fraudulent workers’ compensation claim on behalf of an injured school district employee.
The state insurance department says Leticia James Coral of Pacifica also arranged for the worker to give her half the money.
Officials say Coral, a former claims examiner with the city’s human resources department, surrendered at San Francisco County Jail on charges of fraudelently dispersing public money.
She allegedly approved an $85,000 payout to an injured school district employee who was entitled to just $9,320.
The injured worker, who has not been identified, told investigators she was not aware of the discrepancy between what she was paid and what she was actually entitled to.
