The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission has voted unanimously to appoint Johnny L. Montoya acting superintendent of insurance.
Montoya, who will continue to perform the function of interim chief of staff until July 6, takes over the interim superintendent reins from Craig Dunbar, who was appointed deputy superintendent of insurance. Dunbar’s appointment was approved 3-1 on June 10.
Meanwhile, the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission, with assistance from a commission appointed 17-member search committee, continues its recruitment of a permanent superintendent of insurance. The committee is expected to provide the Commission with the names of the five most qualified candidates for the position by July 13. The Commission will then interview the finalists and should appoint someone by late-July, early-August.
The NMPRC regulates public utilities, telecommunications companies and motor carriers operating in New Mexico. It also administers the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy in Socorro, New Mexico, Pipeline Safety Bureau and the Corporations Bureau, which registers state corporations. The NMPRC is also responsible for the oversight of the New Mexico Insurance Division and the state’s superintendent of insurance.
