Vancouver, Wash., school officials have to find space for 500 students who have been displaced by the fire that destroyed Crestline Elementary School.
The district doesn’t have any vacant buildings. Officials told The Columbian they’re looking for space to move blocks of students, such as all fourth-grade students. Students were told to stay home Monday.
Officials say it may take days to determine the cause of Sunday morning’s three-alarm fire.
Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Kevin Stromberg says the building is a total loss. The 40-year-old building had sprinklers in the rooms, but not the attic.
Evergreen Public Schools spokesman Carol Fenstermacher says the district carries insurance, but it will take some time to determine how much it will cost to replace.
