The city of Los Angeles is suing four major contractors that built the $250 million south runway at Los Angeles International Airport for allegedly shoddy work that’s causing the runway to wear out prematurely.
The Los Angeles Times reports Thursday that the city filed the suit last week in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The lawsuit claims there are flaws in the concrete work and generally substandard construction throughout the 13,000 foot runway, which opened April 2007.
The project was part of an effort to improve airport safety and help reduce runway incursions by planes.
City officials are seeking unspecified damage and litigation costs. Airport officials declined to comment.
