Nevada Attorney General Hails Verdict in Defective PVC Pipe Case

Nevada Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto is hailing a jury verdict that found a company knowingly made defective water and sewer pipes sold to Nevada and other municipalities and water districts in the state.

Thursday’s verdict in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles against J-M Manufacturing capped a seven year legal case brought by Nevada, New Mexico, Virginia and 42 cities and water districts.

Damages will be determined at a later date. The company is now known as JM Eagle.

Masto says evidence showed JM lied from 1996 to 2006 about whether its PVC pipe met strength and durability standards specified in government contracts.

There are more than 600 miles of JM pipe in Nevada and Masto says the state has spent millions to replace failed pipes.
