Injured Oregon Woman Sues Transit Agency for $251,000

A 77-year-old Portland, Ore., woman who says she broke her hip and pelvis after the doors of a light-rail train closed on her has sued a regional transit agency for $251,000.

The Circuit Court lawsuit filed Thursday by Raissa Moore blames the train operator and what Moore calls TriMet’s failure “to maintain its doors” so that they don’t close on boarding passengers.

The Oregonian reports that the Oct. 22, 2013, incident occurred at the Oregon Convention Center station.

Moore’s lawyer, Steven Kahn, says that as Moore attempted to squeeze onto the crowded train, the doors closed on her. The lawyer says that as the doors closed, in his words, “she does a 180 and falls onto the platform.”

TriMet said it doesn’t comment on pending litigation.

According to the lawsuit, Moore suffered a fractured pelvis and hip socket. Her lawyer says that so far, she has accumulated more than $100,000 in medical bills.
