Police say several pedestrian deaths since the start of the year are prompting stepped up patrols around Las Vegas in February.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police announced Friday that officers would increase ongoing efforts to catch distracted drivers particularly those using hand-held cell phones while driving and target several intersections during the month.
A dedicated squad of officers are expected to look for drivers using their cell phones during the third week of February.
Sergeant Peter Kisfalvi with the department’s traffic bureau says the patrols are expected to cost up to $40,000 and will be paid for with state and federal grants.
