New York Superintendent of Insurance Gregory Serio announced that an investigation into a suspected fraudulent motor vehicle theft insurance claim has resulted in the arrest of Gary E. Deroche, currently residing in North Carolina, for reportedly filing a fraudulent automobile theft claim with State Farm Insurance Company when he was a resident of New York State.
An investigation revealed that Deroche’s claim that his vehicle was stolen was reportedly fraudulent. He had submitted a claim for $25,328 for his vehicle and $4,100 for lost personal property.
Earlier last Friday, Deroche, 46, turned himself in to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with Insurance Fraud in the 3rd Degree, and Attempted Grand Larceny in 3rd Degree. He was arraigned by Albany City Court Judge Thomas Keefe and was released after posting $2,500 bail.
He is to re-appear in the Albany City Court on Feb. 21.
