New York’s Superintendent of Insurance Gregory Serio announced that an investigation into a suspected fraudulent motor vehicle theft insurance claim has resulted in the arrest of Steven P. Oslica, of Camillus, New York, for reportedly filing a fraudulent claim with Progressive Insurance Company.
“An investigation revealed that Mr. Oslica traded his personal vehicle to an unknown drug dealer in exchange for illegal drugs,” said the bulletin. “The vehicle was subsequently involved in an accident while under the control of an unknown driver. Once Mr. Oslica received information of the accident, he reported this vehicle stolen from his apartment complex in Camillus, New York to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Dept.”
He then allegedly filed “A fraudulent insurance claim… with Progressive Insurance Company.” However, an “investigation by the Insurance Department’s Frauds Bureau and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department has resulted in Mr. Oslica’s arrest for insurance fraud, falsifying business records and falsely reporting an incident. Mr. Oslica was arraigned in the Town of Camillus Court yesterday and released on his own recognizance.”
