Authorities have identified a maintenance worker who died when a freight elevator fell on him in Derby, Connecticut
Police say 64-year-old Robert Beckwith of Ansonia was killed in Tuesday morning’s incident at Derby Cellular Products. They say it’s not clear what Beckwith was doing when the elevator fell on him.
The death is being investigated by Derby police, the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the state Department of Public Safety’s elevators division and the chief medical examiner’s office.
Officials say Beckwith had worked for Derby Cellular Products for 30 years. The company makes rubber products.
Police say Beckwith suffered a head injury and was pronounced dead at the scene. They say the elevator is small and not something people stand in.
