Authorities say a fire in the garage of a New Jersey taxi company caused several cars to explode, burning two employees.
Jeff Welz, co-director of North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue, says the fire broke out at Rapido Taxi & Limo Co. in Union City around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Welz says three to five cars caught fire and their gas tanks exploded, giving the employees second-degree burns. They were taken to Palisades Medical Center. Their conditions were not immediately known.
Welz says the fire was extinguished before it could spread to an adjacent apartment building. All the residents were evacuated safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
