Bridgeport police say a driver charged with fatally injuring a woman as she stepped off a city bus was talking on his cellphone at the time.
Police say 41-one-year-old Michael Maddox of Newtown was charged Friday with negligent homicide, operating a vehicle under a suspended license and driving while using a cellphone.
The charges stem from an April 4 collision in which 74-year-old Christina Dejara of Bridgeport was struck as she stepped off a bus at a Bridgeport intersection. She later died from her injuries.
The Connecticut Post reports that police say Maddox still had his cellphone in his hand when he got out of the car after the incident. He was released after posting $5,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment in Bridgeport Superior Court on Oct. 16.
