A former Rhode Island insurance adjuster is asking a federal court not to count his professional expertise against him when sentencing him in a $40,000 home insurance fraud case.
Vincent DiPaolo is set to be sentenced on Nov. 30 in U.S. District Court in Providence. The 62-year-old DiPaolo is the final defendant awaiting his punishment.
In a pre-sentence memorandum, DiPaolo says his insurance business background does not merit a harsher punishment for his crimes. DiPaolo admitted in August that he helped a former radio personality file a bogus home insurance claim in 2010.
DiPaolo wants a judge to sentence him to three years of probation, including up to four months in a halfway house and up to four months in home confinement.
He faces up to 85 years in prison.
