A southwest Ohio woman whose baby was stuck in her birth canal for 13 hours has been awarded $22.6 million.
Heather Grow’s attorneys argued during a five-week medical malpractice trial in Hamilton County that Cassie Grow suffered brain injuries during the September 1997 birth.
Months before the birth, doctors told Grow she had a narrow pelvic arch.
The jury on Monday found doctors negligent for trying to push the 9-pound baby through the canal, causing her head to be squeezed. The baby was eventually delivered by Caesarean section.
One of Grow’s attorneys says Cassie has limited use of her limbs and vision problems and is mildly retarded.
Physician Lisa Yang and her Cincinnati-area doctors group, Group Health Associates, could not be reached by The Cincinnati Enquirer for comment Monday.
