Detroi, Mich., authorities say an abandoned nursing home that was a target for metal scavengers collapsed, killing two people inside.
Police and firefighters were at the scene of the accident Wednesday afternoon. The facility is on Detroit’s northwest side.
WDIV-TV says the two victims apparently were engaged in removing metal from the building when it fell on them.
Fred Coates works nearby and tells The Detroit News that scavengers regularly went through the building. The newspaper says the nursing home closed about 11 years ago.
A message seeking information was left for Detroit police Wednesday afternoon.
