The city of Chicago is announcing where a dozen new speed enforcement cameras will be installed as part of its Children’s Safety Zone Program.
In a news release, the city’s department of transportation says installation will begin next week at four parks around the city: Gompers Park, Garfield Park, Marquette Park and Washington Park. The other eight cameras will be installed near parks and a number of schools. Officials expect to pick 50 more locations for the cameras this year.
For the first 30 days, the city will only issue warnings. After that motorists face a $35 fine if they are cited for traveling 6-10 mph over the posted speed limit and $100 if they are found to be traveling 11 mph or more over the speed limit.
