Charged with five counts of obtaining property by false pretense and five counts of insurance fraud, Kathy Ball, 40, of Archdale, N.C., faces felony convictions, according to state officials.
Ball, arrested by N.C. Department of Insurance investigators in High Point was taken to the Randolph County jail where she was ordered to post a $20,000 bond.
Department of Insurance investigators allege that between 2000 and 2006, Ball filed 36 fraudulent medical claims with State Farm Insurance Company totaling nearly $60,000.
Using records from previous stays in the local hospital, she allegedly forged documents supporting numerous injuries to herself and her 10-year-old daughter. The Department of Insurance received a tip regarding these alleged activities and opened a criminal case in June 2006.
Department officials collaborated with the Archdale Police Department and the High Point Police Department – both of which had additional warrants for Bell – and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, which served the warrant for the Archdale Police.
