State officials say a tipster called the South Carolina Arson Hotline and helped authorities solve 12 Columbia-area cases.
The help garnered a record reward for the anonymous tipster.
The South Carolina Insurance News Service says an informant has received a $2,500 reward for information on the fires that caused nearly $400,000 in damage.
Officials say the information led to the arrest and conviction of Christopher Lloyd. He has been sentenced to 20 years in prison and five years probation.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s Arson Team says it has investigated nearly $3 million in property losses so far this year.
