Officials with the National Weather Service in Memphis and Lee County E-911 say an earthquake caused no injuries after it hit the Belden, Miss. area on May 10.
A dispatcher for 911, Tanya Mayo, says the earthquake registered a magnitude of 3.1 and hit about a mile southeast of Sherman, in Belden, shortly before 1 p.m.
She said callers said they felt a big shake and some even claimed that it knocked them off of their couches.
Employees at a Belden liquor store said they felt the tremor and that bottles at the liquor store shook right off the shelf.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Douglas Vogelsang said it is considered a minor earthquake.
