A two-alarm fire destroyed ten apartments and displaced 15 families at Nob Hill Apartments in Birmingham, Ala., with a couple preparing to wed losing her wedding dress, his tuxedo and their belongings.
Battalion Chief C.W. Mardis said units were on the scene of the June 19 fire in four minutes, but there was little they could do because it had engulfed the apartments when firefighters arrived.
Management planned to house the displaced residents in hotel rooms. No one was injured. Crews had the fire under control after 90 minutes.
Firewalls kept it from spreading to adjoining buildings. Officials have not determined the cause of the fire.
