‘Dr. Vodka’ Widow Sues Driver in Florida Car Crash

May 7, 2014

The widow of a New York physician and distilled spirits entrepreneur known as “Dr. Vodka” has filed a lawsuit against the driver of a high-end sports car police say was speeding before a fatal crash.

The lawsuit was filed Monday in Miami-Dade Circuit Court on behalf Solange Sandy Lloyd, widow of Dr. Malcolm Lloyd, and their two children. Lloyd was a passenger in a Lamborghini police say was doing more than 100 miles per hour when it slammed into a sports-utility vehicle at a Miami Beach red light on April 24.

The lawsuit was filed against the car’s driver, Andres Esteban Toro. Toro remains hospitalized and also faces criminal charges. Police say his blood-alcohol level was more than twice Florida’s legal limit.

Lloyd launched the Double Cross vodka brand.
