The parents of an 11-year-old boy killed two years ago when a motorist passed a school bus and hit the child as he crossed the street is suing the driver and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports attorneys for Odina and Norris Wesley say Billy Roger Bailey was texting on his phone when Hasani Wesley was killed on Dec. 19, 2012, while trying to catch his school bus.
The school board also is accused of failing to supervise school bus drivers and placing school routes on heavily traveled highways.
Bailey pleaded guilty in June to misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. A phone number for Bailey couldn’t be found Tuesday.
School system spokesman Theo Helm said Tuesday that officials will not comment on pending litigation.
