A group of high school students who came forward to claim responsibility for bringing hay into the school will face discipline ranging from apologies to volunteer service.
However, the Durango High School students will graduate on time and will not be required to pay the costs associated with the hay’s effects and its cleanup, the Durango Herald reports.
Classes had to be canceled for four days after cleanup crews removed 30 bales of hay that were spread by student pranksters, contaminating the school with mold spores.
The cost for cleaning and air-quality tests will be close to $200,000.
The district has insurance for events such as the hay incident, but the district will have a deductible it will have to pay.
