Los Angeles, Calif., police say thieves who broke into a sport utility vehicle got away with more than personal property — they also took a beloved family member’s cremated remains.
Police say the GMC Yukon was parked at the Westfield Promenade shopping center in Woodland Hills on Monday night when someone broke into the vehicle and stole two pieces of luggage and a carry-on bag.
The black canvas carry-on with a “St. John” logo contained a brown box inside a white plastic bag which held the woman’s ashes.
The ashes had been packed for an early morning flight to the East Coast for spreading.
Police say the family learned Tuesday that someone had found the luggage, but the carry-on bag remains missing.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the LAPD.
